SciShow Psych Review: Can you really multitask?

SciShow Psych Review: Can you really Multitask?

As a serial "multitasker" this video from the brand new YouTube channel, SciShow Psych, immediately caught my eye. You will often find me doing a variety of tasks at once, and I like to think I do ok!  Apparently, research says otherwise! According to a number of studies, (sources are linked in the description of the video here) when you multi-task you are really just switching quickly between two tasks. When you do this, not only does it take you longer to complete each task, you also make more mistakes. Thanks to our nifty pre-frontal cortex, shifting between tasks can cause some "lag" leading to more errors. New or difficult tasks amplifies this effect!  Modern technology and internet culture have created a Shangri-la for multitaskers. What effect could this have on our brains? My current multitasking guilty pleasure is this swear filled coloring book from Amazon. Swear Word Coloring Book: The Jungle Adult Coloring Book featured with Sweary Words & Animals

As someone who believes that Psychology is without a doubt a true science, I can't help but recommend SciShow's new channel. As always the production quality is top notch, the hosts are engaging and the information is solid.
