Sir Martyn Poliakoff is the subject of this Science Spotlight.  Sir Martyn Poliakoff is a chemistry research professor at The University of Nottingham and leader in the field of green chemistry but is best known for his contribution to the YouTube series Periodic Videos Periodic Videos features a  short video for each of the elements on the periodic table as well as a number of other chemistry related videos. Sir Martyn Poliakoff has introduced the elements and the periodic table to thousands of young scientists around the world. His undying enthusiasm for chemistry, Einsteinian hair, and undeniable chemistry expertise has made him one of my favorite scientists. He has no doubt inspired countless students to go into the sciences with his videos and love for science. In his videos, he is usually wearing a periodic table tie and can be seen drinking from his periodic table mug. The team that puts together periodic videos including producer Brady Haran, create an experience that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. The videos ooze with expertise and enthusiasm but are at the same time unpretensious and sincere. You can tell they are made by real scientists in a real lab environment by people who are truley passionate about their work. They show chemistry for what is really is, endlessly interesting.

Sir Martyn Poliakoff was knighted in 2015 for his work in the science community ( watch him being knighted here).   He has received the Leverhulme medal for his work in green chemistry.  He is truely an amazing member of the world science community. Sir Martyn Poliakoff is a scientist who is truely dedicated to his field and understands the positive impact a little bit of enthusiasm can have on the world.
