The Opinel Carbon Blade No8 Folding is a great pocket knife for any weekend naturalist. I bought it because I liked the design and it had excellent reviews.  This knife gets a lot of use on my hiking and biking trips around Connecticut. It goes in my day pack or pocket depending on the trip and is a great utility knife. The Opinel No8 has a simple,  classic design with minimal moving parts. I am someone who values simplicity in engineering, and the beauty that comes from practical design. The knife has only four components and is built with practicality and longevity in mind.  The best feature of this knife is the locking mechanism. The lock is a simple mechanism that allows you to lock the blade in both the open and closed position. You never have to worry about the blade opening in your bag or pocket.

The handle is comfortable and solid and not bad to look at either. This knife is also relatively inexpensive ( I got mine for about $12) they could range up to the $15-20$ range if you want a fancier handle and a case. The No8 will fit right in with the rest of your equipment. I don't pretend to be a great outdoorsman of any kind, but I am someone who finds them self outside more often than not on the weekend. This knife is probably the only one I will ever need!

Thanks for reading!
